I. Перепишите предложения. Определите какой частью речи являются слова, оформленные окончанием «s» и какую функцию это окончание выполняет, т.е. служит ли оно:

• а) показателем 3-го лица единственного числа глагола в Present Indefinite;
• б) признаком множественного числа имени существительного;
• в) показателем притяжательного падежа имени существительного.

Переведите предложения:

• 1. Automation performs certain tasks done by machines only.
• 2. The computer’s memory stores numbers to be operated on.
• 3. A robot provides substitutes to different operations.

II. Перепишите предложения, содержащие разные формы сравнения и переведите их:

• 1. Most everyday tasks are now easier to do than ever before.
• 2. The more we study, the more we know.
• 3. This is the most interesting film I saw.

III. Перепишите предложения и переведите их, обращая внимание на различные значения выделенных слов:

• 1. Since electronics become know, it was used in all branches of industry.
• 2. The central processor is the nerve center of any computer, for it controls all other units.
• 3. I found my friend neither at home, nor at the office.

IV. Перепишите предложения, определите в них видовременные формы глаголов и укажите их инфинитив. Переведите их, обращая внимание на функции глаголов «to be» и «to have»:

V. Перепишите и письменно переведите следующий текст на русский язык:

Many industries are highly automated or use automation technology in some part of their operation. In communications and especially in the telephone industry dialing and transmission are all done automatically. Railways are also controlled by automatic signalling devices, which have sensors that detect carriages passing a particular point. In this way the movement and location of trains can be monitored.

Not all industries require the same degree of automation. Sales, agriculture, and some service industries are difficult to automate, though agriculture industry may become more mechanized, especially in the processing and packaging of foods.

The automation technology in manufacturing and assembly is widely used in car and other consumer product industries.

Nevertheless, each industry has its own concept of automation that answers its particular production needs.
